When Positive Thinking Isn't Enough: The Value of Having the Right Tools

We've spent this month talking about mindset, how our thoughts influence our actions, our habits, and ultimately the lives we create.

Much of that work starts from within. We cultivate gratitude, practice mindfulness, build healthy routines, and develop systems that support our goals. Those internal shifts are powerful, and I believe they create the foundation for lasting change.

But what happens when you've tried all of that and you're still struggling to get into the right frame of mind?

What if you're doing the inner work, but something still feels off?

That's an important question because sometimes mindset isn't just about willpower. Sometimes it's about recognizing that we need a little extra support.

Mindset Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

One of the things I've learned over the years is that there isn't a single path to feeling your best.

For one person, it might be taking a walk outside.

For someone else, it might be listening to a favorite song, spending time with a friend, getting a massage, or simply getting a better night's sleep.

We all have different tools that help us return to a place of calm, focus, and energy.

The key is being willing to discover what works for you.

Internal Tools and External Tools

I often talk about supplements as anything that supports a healthy lifestyle, not just vitamins or nutrition.

Exercise is a supplement to good health.

Massage can be a supplement.

Meditation is a supplement.

Music can be a supplement.

They're all tools that help us become the healthiest version of ourselves.

Recently, I found another tool that I've been excited to share because it approaches wellness from a completely different angle.

It's called Super Patch, a wearable neurotechnology that doesn't contain medication or supplements. Instead, the patches are designed to stimulate your body's natural neurological pathways through touch.

I've spent the last couple of years being very selective about the products I recommend, so when I share something with my clients, friends, and family, it's because I've taken the time to explore it for myself.

Finding the Support You Need

One of the things I appreciate about this technology is that there are different patches designed to support different needs.

Sometimes low energy makes it difficult to stay motivated.

Sometimes ongoing discomfort or pain quietly affects your mood more than you realize. I experienced that myself before my hip surgery. Very quickly after surgery, I could see how much that constant discomfort influenced my mindset without me even recognizing it.

Other times, anxiety makes it difficult to focus, or mental distractions keep us from being fully present.

There are also times when we're simply looking for a little extra help with concentration or recovery after physical activity.

These tools are never intended to replace healthy habits, nor are they meant to become something you depend on forever.

Instead, I see them as another tool in your toolbox that can help bridge the gap while you're continuing to build healthy routines and strengthen your mindset.

There's No Shame in Using Helpful Tools

I think sometimes we put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to believe we should be able to do everything through determination alone.

But if putting on your favorite song helps lift your mood, that's a tool.

If taking a walk clears your mind, that's a tool.

If practicing meditation helps you regain focus, that's a tool.

If another resource helps support your wellness journey, that's simply another tool in your toolbox.

The goal isn't to prove that you can do everything on your own.

The goal is to find healthy, effective ways to become the person you want to be.

Start Where You Are

Mindset is still the foundation.

It's where every positive change begins.

But don't be afraid to explore the resources that help you get there.

Sometimes the path to a better mindset begins with an internal shift.

Sometimes it begins with finding the external support that helps make that shift possible.

Be curious.

Be open.

And most importantly, give yourself permission to use the tools that help you thrive.

As always, what I hope for you is that you live a life you love without giving up the things that bring you joy.
