Tricks for Enjoying Treats This Halloween

Even in October, I’m already seeing posts from those who are planning their holiday treats, and Halloween is first up to bat. If you’re a planner, maybe thinking about your plan ahead of time keeps you stress free, and if so, that’s great! But I can’t help thinking when I see constant posts about what kind of game plans we should have regarding holiday eating that there might just be too much thought going into what should be a nice occasional treat.

Let’s make healthy choices when we can, but let’s not feel like our food is a full-time job.

Halloween is right around the corner, so most stores have their shelves stocked full of treats in preparation. Halloween is such a fun holiday, so it makes me sad to think that some people may be too concerned with what the candy might do to their goals that they forget to enjoy the day all together.

Our health should always be a priority for each of us, but the reality is that we only get one time to live our life, and we should enjoy it to the fullest. For me, that means enjoying delicious food and wine that I love, and also spending time with family and friends, and keeping my body in good enough shape that I can feel good while I do the things I love.

“Healthy” isn’t one size fits all. You have to decide what “healthy” looks like for you.

It’s so important to remember that you have the power over food–not the other way around. If you want to indulge in Halloween candy, great! Go pick up your favorite treat. But don’t give something as simple as Halloween candy the power to stress you out or make you feel regret. What you do and don’t do on Halloween (and every day afterwards!) is totally your choice.

Here are my tips for enjoying your Halloween treats and staying healthy while you do it.

  1. Balance out your candy purchases between your favorites and not-so-favorites.

When I get candy for trick-or-treaters, I always buy my favorite candy, but I also buy a lot of stuff that I’m not personally interested in. It may sound crazy to buy candy that I don’t even like, but it’s one of my secret tricks for avoiding a Halloween splurge. I make a decision about what I’m going to have ahead of time, and I eat every delicious bite of that candy. But when that candy is said and done, I don’t ever feel guilty about getting rid of any extra candy, and I’m not tempted by it because it isn’t my personal choice of treat.

  1. Give out a different kind of treat.

If you’re at a place in your journey where you feel like having candy in the house is just too much for you, you shouldn’t have to feel obligated to keep it around in case of trick or treaters. I always keep extra treats on hand, like glow sticks and Halloween pencils, and they make fun gifts to hand out to any kids that come by. If you know that having candy in the house will send you on a binge and leave you feeling terrible, don’t let Halloween pressure you into decisions that aren’t good for you.

  1. Get back on track on November 1st.

So many people absolutely love Halloween, and if that’s you and you want to enjoy your holiday to the fullest, go for it! You can eat all the candy you want on Halloween and still get back on track the next day. My team and I are launching a 21-Day Reset Program starting on November 1st, and it’s the perfect way to jump back into the game once Halloween is over. We’re focusing on reducing inflammation, improving circulation, optimizing your digestion, balancing your blood sugar, and improving collagen resilience, and I’d love for you to join us. Head over to The Health Pro Hub, and let them know that I sent you.  We’ll jump start our health together!
