Have a Healthy and Happy Summer Vacation

June here in Boston has had a chillier start than usual, but I’m still dreaming of the warm, sunny summer vacation days to come. Whether you’re doing a staycation or a big family trip, summer is the time we should plan to give ourselves a little getaway so that we can take a break from the hustle and bustle.

Everyone loves a good vacation, but one of the complaints I most often hear from women who are working on their health is that they return from their trips feeling bloated, dehydrated, and nervous to see the number on the scale. A lot of people feel like they can’t have a fun vacation if they are making healthy choices at the same time.

Today, I’m going to share why it’s a myth that you can’t eat healthy and enjoy your vacation, too, by sharing my favorite healthy travel tips!

1. Hydrate your body with water and more!

In the summertime, you may be unaware of just how much the heat is impacting your body, so drink some water, and then drink some more just to be safe. If you’re like me, you probably have a favorite water bottle that you take with you on the go. I always keep that full of water and ready for me, and recently, I’ve upgraded my hydration. Summer is the perfect time to add electrolytes to your drink, so I’ve been using Electro, an electrolyte supplement that mixes into my water. It tastes delicious, so I want to drink more water, and it keeps my body hydrated and ready to go. Get it here now!

2. Carry along snacks as you go.

I always bring snacks with me when I travel outside of my house, and this time of year calls for heat-safe options. For summertime, I love bars as long as they don’t have a chocolate coating so that they don’t melt. Daryl’s bars are a great healthy, balanced option to take on the go, and I also love Epic bars. Fruit is awesome to take on the go, and Kyani Sunrise is a great fruit pouch that’s easy to travel with. Add in a handful of nuts, and you have your protein, fats, and carbs balanced while you’re on the go.

I also take my collagen packets when I travel. Each one has five grams of protein and two grams of carbs, so two pouches give me a great start towards a balanced meal. Boiled eggs are an awesome snack on the road that will keep you full as you travel.

If you have meals packed with you that you really enjoy, you’re much less likely to stop 5 or 6 times a day when you need a little fuel. That way, you can eat out when you really want it, and not because you have to settle when there are no other options around.

3. Ditch the guilt!

Anywhere you travel, you’re sure to find some kind of delicious local cuisine that’s calling your name. I love to travel and enjoy great food, and I want you to do the same. Next time you hit the road, leave the guilt at home. You can go off your PFC lifestyle for one meal and then get back on track. I promise, it won’t make or break your progress, and you’ll enjoy every bite so much more if you’re guilt-free about your delicious meal.

Life has so much to offer, and great food is one of those things! If you make sure to hydrate all day long, pack snacks for the road, and leave the guilt at home, you can have a wonderful vacation that doesn’t totally throw you off track this summer.
