Go Out to Eat With Confidence
November 21, 2022
One of my favorite parts of traveling is getting to enjoy delicious cuisines from around the world. I recently spent some time in Europe, and I had plenty of yummy food along the way that I’ll remember for years to come. While I love eating great food, I don’t love feeling bloated or sluggish on my adventures, so I made dining choices during my travels that reflected that.
Today, I want to talk about how you can enjoy eating out at restaurants confidently.
I recently went to a two day seminar, and on one of those days, we enjoyed a lunch out at The Cheesecake Factory. The Cheesecake Factory is so delicious, but they aren’t exactly known for having healthy options. So what did I do when it turned out that The Cheesecake Factory was our lunch choice?
I didn’t opt out and go somewhere else with healthier options. I didn’t sit at the table without ordering food. I also didn’t let my plans fall to the wayside.
I knew that my goal was to have something reasonably light so that I wouldn’t be sleepy and weighed down throughout the rest of the day. So what did I do? I took control of my own plate.
I chose to go with a turkey burger, but I swapped the bun for lettuce and had a salad on the side instead of greasy fries that I knew I would regret. I added some veggies like pickles and tomatoes to make my meal a little more flavorful, I had iced tea with a lemon on the side, and it all ended up being so delicious.
My turkey burger was so yummy, completely satisfying, and I didn’t feel like I needed to go for a mid-afternoon nap like I may have with some heavier choices. When faced with lots of dense options, I didn’t choose to ditch lunch or give in to a greasy, heavy meal. I chose to be mindful, take control of my meal, and enjoy lunch out with my colleagues, totally stress-free.
