Traveling Well: My Insider Tips for Healthy and Happy Flights

As the summer travel season heats up, I’ll be sharing all my insider secrets to make your journeys smoother, healthier, and more enjoyable. Since I’m gearing up for some long-haul flights, including a 15-hour trek to India, I thought this would be the perfect time to dive into my flight preparation strategies.

These tips are all part of our PFC 3 program, so if you’re interested in learning more about living a balanced lifestyle, feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

Eat: Smart Snacks for the Sky

First up, let’s talk about food. Whether it’s a short trip or an epic journey, being prepared with snacks is crucial. Have you ever been stuck on a delayed flight, feeling ravenous? It’s no fun. That’s why I always pack more food than I think I’ll need.

Here’s my go-to travel snack pack:

  • Insulated Cooler Bag: I have an envelope-shaped, insulated bag that keeps my snacks fresh. This little gem fits perfectly in my backpack alongside my laptop.

  • Powdered Shake Mix and Collagen Packs: Easy to mix with water for a quick protein boost.

  • Peppermint Tea Bags: Perfect for a calming bedtime routine.

  • Beef Jerky: I love trying new flavors, but Epic brand is my favorite.

  • PFC Bars: Convenient and filling.

  • Assorted Tea Bags: For a touch of comfort and variety during the flight.

Having these essentials ensures I’m never caught hungry or unprepared, no matter what travel surprises come my way.

Move: Stretch, Stroll and Sleep

Movement and rest are just as important as nutrition when traveling. Long flights can be tough on your body, so I make it a point to stretch and move regularly. I also nap as much as I can!

Here’s how I do that on the plane:

  • Seat Exercises: Simple stretches you can do right in your seat.

  • Compression Socks: These help with circulation and prevent swelling.

  • Frequent Walks: I try to get up and walk around the cabin whenever possible.

  • Sleep Aids: Noise-canceling earbuds and an eye mask help me catch some Z’s, which is crucial for feeling refreshed upon arrival.

Recharge: Stay Powered Up

Finally, staying recharged and entertained can make or break your travel experience.

Here’s what I bring to keep my devices running and my mind engaged:

  • Portable Charger: My favorite has built-in cords for both lightning and USB-C. Plus an extra cable to plug into the seat charger if there is one.

  • Noise-Canceling Earbuds: I love my Soundcore earbuds, which have multiple settings and come highly recommended by Wirecutter.

  • Entertainment: I download episodes of my favorite shows, books on my Kindle app, and games like Wordle and The New York Times crossword puzzles to keep me entertained.

With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to a happy, healthy travel experience.
