Embracing the "Boring" Side: The Power of Systems

We all strive for excitement and thrills in our lives, but what if I told you that sometimes, boring can be a good thing? Yes, you read that right. In a world that often glorifies busyness and constant stimulation, finding joy in a mundane, crisis-free day can be surprisingly fulfilling.

In our fast-paced lives, it's easy to overlook the significance of systems. We often associate them with rigid routines or boring schedules that stifle creativity. However, systems are not about restriction; they are about efficiency and creating a solid foundation for success. When our systems are firing on all cylinders, we can navigate our days with ease and accomplish more than we ever thought possible.

Recently, my life has been thrown into disarray due to various reasons, one of which involves driving my kiddo to school. This seemingly simple change disrupted my morning routine, forcing me to adapt and rearrange my schedule. Suddenly, I found myself multitasking and juggling tasks, which isn't my preferred way of working. I believe in being fully present in whatever I do, whether it's writing, attending a meeting, or hitting the gym.

Amidst this upheaval, I came to appreciate (even more than before) the value of having robust systems in place. It became evident that a well-designed system can adapt to unexpected circumstances, allowing us to maintain focus and productivity.

By implementing a few adjustments to my daily routine, I was able to find a new rhythm that accommodated the necessary changes without sacrificing my productivity or presence.

By understanding the power of systems and how they can enhance our lives, we can find balance, resilience, and even joy in the seemingly mundane.

I recently made a change to my daily routine that has had a positive impact on my mornings. Usually, I spend a few minutes in the morning preparing my drink by adding probiotics, electrolytes, and energy powder to my water bottle and shaking it all up. However, I realized that I could save time by mixing it the night before. So, I started preparing my drink in advance and storing it in the fridge. Now, when I wake up, I can simply grab my pre-made drink and be ready to go without any extra time.

I've come to realize that even the ability to make these small adjustments are also important systems in my life. They may seem insignificant, but they contribute to a more successful day overall. Starting my morning off right sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. On the other hand, if my morning doesn't go well, it tends to affect the rest of my day too.

And let’s not forget the impact of self-care on our mental wellness. When I skip my morning workout, I tend to be more irritable, and those around me notice the difference too. So, I've incorporated various systems to prioritize self-care, such as preparing breakfast, filling up my water bottle, and even packing my lunch the night before. I've also started selecting my Peloton classes in advance and creating a stack, so I don't need to spend time choosing and can just press play.

Implementing these little systems has made my life much easier and more manageable. I do what I need to do while still taking care of myself and my mental well-being. It's amazing how these small changes can make a big difference.

What specific systems are you looking to implement? If you're interested in learning additional tactics, techniques, and strategies similar to the one I just mentioned, we cover those in our 100-days of 1% program.

Together let's challenge the notion that boring is inherently bad. Instead, let's embrace the potential that lies within our systems, appreciating their ability to bring order, stability, and efficiency to our lives. And allowing us to focus on the big things.
