Embracing Plan B: A Lesson from a Rainy, Restful Week

Life doesn't always go according to plan, and that’s okay. I talk a lot about having a good Plan B, whether it’s for food, activity, or just about anything else. This week was a full-on Plan B week for me, and I want to share why.

When I arrived at my vacation spot with the family, the weather had other plans. The rain set in, and to top it off, I popped a fever on Sunday. You might have seen my earlier blog post about dealing with setbacks and getting back to basics—well, that’s exactly what I had to do.

After a couple of days of rain, my fever was up and down, and my voice was coming and going too. Even though I was not back to 100%, I thought I could begin to ease back into vacation mode. As it turned out, I had walking pneumonia, so another clinic visit, some antibiotics, and I’m starting to heal for real this time. A good lesson to stay in tune with your intuition. If you think something isn’t quite right, keep digging till you figure out what it is!

All of this has kept me off the volleyball and pickleball courts, and even the hot tub is sometimes off-limits due to thunderstorms. So, I’m taking it slow and adapting as needed.

Mindset is everything, especially when it comes to health. I could have let this week get me down, but instead, I chose to adapt. I’ve spent time indoors, played board games, ordered takeout, and allowed my body the rest it clearly needed. Sometimes, your body will give you a clear signal that it’s time to slow down, and that’s exactly what happened to me.

This experience was a good reminder that I need to be more consistent with the recharge part of my "eat, move, and recharge" formula. I had been pushing too hard leading up to this vacation, trying to get everything done so I could take time off without stress. But instead, I ended up sick.

So, I’m taking this lesson to heart and hope it helps you plan for better balance in your life. Next week, I’ll be back with my full voice and ready to share more fun stories and activities as everything clears up.

For now, I’m focusing on sleep, hydration, and keeping my stress levels low.

Remember, it’s okay to have a Plan B, and sometimes, it’s the best plan of all.
