Celebrating a Healthy Holiday While on the Road

Over Halloween weekend, I took on the role of taxi driver for my kiddo while he hopped between Halloween parties. I knew I would be out of my house for most of the day, so I packed a cooler to bring with me full of PFC balanced meals. The holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for travel, so today, I’m sharing my tips for staying healthy while on the road!

For a day away from my kitchen, the very first and most important thing I bring is a bottle of water. Staying hydrated keeps me focused and feeling my best, so I always bring water with me, even for just a short outing. 

The next thing I pack is my shake mix in my shaker bottle. I love a good chocolate shake, and it’s such an easy way to stay full while on the road without resorting to greasy fast food that leaves me feeling sluggish. I pack a healthy energy drink, too, so that if my energy levels do start to take a dip, I have a quick fix for keeping my momentum throughout the day. 

Water, shakes, and energy drinks are all great, but I personally like to have good, solid food in my stomach instead of subsisting off of liquids all day. 

I pack small meals that are easy to transport and super satisfying, like a caprese salad with egg whites. I try to add plenty of protein and flavour to my meals so that I stay satisfied all day long. 

My favorite peanut butter and chocolate bars are another great quick fix when my stomach starts to grumble, so I always remember to stick a couple of those in my to-go bag. If I need something more for a mid-afternoon snack, I’m currently loving Quest protein chips. I’m always a fan of a little bit of spice, and Quest Spicy Sweet Chili chips really hit the spot for me. For a fun twist, I add in a peach collagen pack for a spicy-sweet combo that keeps me satisfied all afternoon. 

All of these quick meals together are enough for four meals in total, so I know that with my cooler well-stocked, I can stay satisfied the entire time I’m out and about. Bringing snacks that I love keeps me from going through drive through lines for food that I don’t really want, so I can have restaurant meals with the food that I really do want.

I like to be prepared for long days spent on the road, and there are a lot of them this time of year. If you’re traveling for the holidays, try stocking your cooler bag with delicious and nutritious snacks to keep you full and avoid feeling hangry. :)
