Celebrate All Season Long Without Indulging Every Day

We’ve officially entered into what seems like a non-stop holiday season where every month has its own holiday–and its own special foods that go with it. Between Halloween candy and Thanksgiving dinner and holiday cookies, it feels like the next few months are stuffed with food, just like we might be after all that celebrating.

I love all the social gatherings during the holidays, and I want you to be able to enjoy yours without guilt, too. However, I know that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy them if I felt bloated and sluggish afterwards, and that’s unfortunately what would happen if I over-indulged every day.

One important thing to remember is that each holiday is just one day. We can eat our fill of turkey on Thanksgiving without snacking all of the day before and living off of plates piled high with leftovers for the next week. We can get a cup of hot cocoa (and marshmallows of course) and enjoy the holiday light displays without eating a plateful holiday cookies every day of December.

If we stay on track with our goals for the whole month and celebrate the holiday day with all the delicious foods we love, we can have the best of both worlds this holiday season!

You may feel pressured to indulge throughout the next couple of months because everyone around you might be doing so, and you may even be gifted treats that don’t align with your goals for yourself. If you want to enjoy the food around you that others are eating, go for it! I just counsel you to focus on your personal goals and eat those yummy holiday treats when you decide to (not when you feel pressured to).

My best tip for enjoying the holidays without overeating is to remember that this season is about so much more than just food.

Fill the next couple months with every fun holiday activity, like apple picking, decorating, and going on a sightseeing walk to view the lights. Not every tradition has to revolve around food, and you may find that you love making traditions of your own! We build a big Lego set each year as a family project, and now we have them decorating most of the rooms of our house. :)

The holidays will come and go, and if you’re really looking forward to the snacks this time of year, don’t feel like you have to restrict yourself! You can enjoy yummy holiday treats and stick with your goals, too, by filling your holiday season with activities and traditions that are about more than just food.
