3 Tips to Prepare for a Healthy Fall
September 9, 2022
It may not quite be pumpkin spice season just yet, but with Labor Day right behind us and kids going back to school, it’s clear that summer is on its way out. Summer 2022 definitely held some great memories for my family and I, and I hope the same is true for you.
If you look back at your summer and most of your fond memories are of fun backyard barbecues, picnics in the park, and late night ice cream runs, you may be coming out of summer feeling a little yucky. It’s great you have so many awesome memories of yummy food and fun with friends, but it’s also understandable if you’re ready to get back to feeling better for fall.
Today, I’m sharing my three tips for enjoying fall while making healthy choices.
-
Decide how you want to feel in winter.
You may think I’m skipping a season, but I’m not simply putting fall on the back burner. The reality is that by deciding what goals we want to have reached by winter, we can make a plan for what we need to do to achieve them in fall. If you want to have more energy, sleep better, or feel less bloated, you can make positive changes now so that you’ll feel those effects later. Going for fall hikes, prioritizing hydration in between lattes, and trying out healthy fall recipes can make a big difference in how you feel in winter. How we want to exit fall can help determine what goals we should have as we enter.

Create a fall routine.
When the seasons change, our routines do, too, and it’s important that we make those changes intentionally instead of letting the chips fall where they may. As our daylight starts to slip away, we lose a few hours that could otherwise go to an outdoor workout or self-care time, so we need to be especially sure that we’re placing those things on our schedule before we run out of light.
Make a commitment to yourself to rest and wake close to the same time each day, and plan meals that are a healthy mix of proteins, fats, and carbs for every few hours. Getting your body used to a schedule can be one of the best things you do for your health this fall.
There are only a few short days of summer left, so before fall swoops in, get plenty of sunlight and enjoy the warm weather! You can also prep for what’s ahead by designing a routine that works for you, making goals for yourself, and planning to reset your body as we head into a new season.
