Living A Healthy Lifestyle and Having Fun

I recently took some time for vacation, visiting Vermont and then dashing back down to Boston with my son to see a Green Day and Weezer concert. We had so much fun! The bands and the weather were both great!

I love stepping away for a little bit for some time with my family. As your Nutrition Evangelist, fun is a big part of my job. That might come as a surprise because many people see getting healthy as a chore. The reality is that getting healthy isn’t about cutting all the fun things out of your life, like pizza nights and lazy days. Being healthy and having fun actually go hand in hand!

For today’s blog, I want to share my experience of trying to stay healthy and balanced while on vacation and still enjoying myself.

We had a great time at the concert, but my food choices weren’t exactly on point for that night. I had an egg sandwich for breakfast and dinner, and plenty of snacks between that, so it wasn’t my finest day for nutrition. But that doesn’t really matter. I had a ton of fun making memories with my kiddo, and I was able to get back on track the next day, no big deal.

Driving to Boston for the show also meant that I didn’t do a ton of movement. I did plenty of dancing at the show, though, so a stagnant day in the car didn’t totally throw me off track. Even though I didn’t move all day as I had planned, I still made sure to get in the movement I was able to and get back on track the next day with plenty of walking.

Going to a concert with my son was the self-care I really needed. It was so great to take him to his first big concert, to spend time with him and enjoy a great show, so my self-care took care of itself. We had so many smiles and a nice break from the daily stress of life, and that’s what self-care is all about!

It doesn’t have to be bubble baths or manicures. Self-care is doing whatever makes you feel rejuvenated.

When you think about how to practice a healthy life, I challenge you to think outside of the box! Your diet, exercise, and self-care habits don’t have to look like anything traditional. And they definitely don’t have to look like anyone else’s! You can live a healthy life and have fun, too.
